i purchased the ooma service when it first came out.

they promised free long distance service when you purchased the pricey unit. i then upgraded to the ooma premier at a substantial additional cost, followed by an upgrade to ooma telo at another substantial cost.

i was fairly happy until august of 2013 when i returned from a vacation to find my electronics had been toasted by a lightning strike. i called ooma service to inform them of what had happened. they told me to purchase a new unit and then call them and they would get me up and going again. so i spent even more money to purchase the new unit and called them as instructed. that is when they decided to inform me that it would now cost me $3.82 per month to use my service!

i tried several long phone calls to try to work this out, all without any success. i also am unable to return the new unit i recently purchased.

six months later i get an e-mail that i am going to lose my account due to inactivity.

my choice is to start paying them the monthly fee or i lose my ooma premiere account now as well.

you have been warned, this service constantly changes it's service and fee agreements. you have no rights to keep the service that you originally signed up under.

stay away!!!!!!!!!!!

use the money to buy a cell phone with pay as you go service. it will be much less expensive overall, and you have the convenience of being able to make long distance phone calls at no extra charge, wherever you go.

Monetary Loss: $700.
